Define Voyuerism: the pleasure of watching someone else perform, eg Rihanna (sex appeal, ideology, iconography).

The idea of voyuerism is frequently evident in music video through a system of screens within screens- eg the characters are shown watching other performers on a television set, via a webcam, as images on a video camera screen or CCTV within the world of the narrative.

Define Intertextuality: the relationship between two texts, especially literary ones.

Using different texts within a text spark a recognition in the audience, for example a television show in a music video.

Not all audiences will spot the reference and this does not need to detract from their pleasure, but it is argued that those who did spot a recognition were flattered by what they saw.

Visual reference in music video come from a range of sources: which include cinema, fashion and art photography.
